SCUT OF THE AZORES
ABOUT
At over 93 kilometers, the Euroscut Azores highway is one of the largest infrastructure projects ever built in the Azores.
The road corridor was structured into three axes — South, North, and South-North —and concessioned under a design, build, finance, operate, and maintain public-private partnership (PPP) valid until 2036.
The South Axis connects the airport to the south of the island, while the South-North Axis improves the connection between the two most important cities on the island. Finally, the North Axis improves communication between the most distant cities of São Miguel, in the municipality of Nordeste.
Construction work was completed in 2011 and was carried out by the Ferrovial Group’s Construction Division, with operations being carried out by its toll subsidiary Cintra until the end of 2023.
Currently, the shareholders are Horizon Equity Partners and RiverRock.
Founded in 2017, Horizon Equity Partners is a Portuguese fund specializing in infrastructure. Horizon has committed to investing more than €150 million in energy transition assets, social services, and transportation. It currently controls the consortium that holds the concession for the Santo EspÃrito Hospital on Terceira Island in the Azores.
RiverRock is a fund created in 2018 that currently manages a portfolio of around €200 million. It specializes in investing and managing stakes in nearly 30 operational infrastructure projects, mainly in the social services and transportation sectors, located in five European countries. RiverRock has already invested in Portugal and holds a minority stake in the Pinhal Interior virtual toll road.
